in the way. the october jobs report will be released in three and a half hours. both the obama and romney campaign hope the numbers will help them in the race. it's too close to call right now. christine romans is going to have a look at it. christine? >> let's talk about what we are expecting in the final economic report before tuesday. in three and a half hours, we'll find out what happens for jobs and the unemployment rate. the expectation is the unemployment rate is 7.9%, picking up slightly with 125,000 jobs added in the month. the trend, though, is what is so important here, right? sometimes you get a little in the month. the trend is what's important. 7.8% was the unemployment rate when the president took office. last month, he's back to where he started. february, 2009, that's the stimulus. then the unemployment rate rise up to 10% in october, 2009 as the stimulus money was being deployed. stubbornly high unemployment. then drifting lower much of this year. we can look at job creation and you can see how jobs have been added now since the end of 2010 consistently, but not robustly

if he wants to get deficit reduction out of raising taxes. president romney will go in the opposite direction. now, how do i feel about that? when i was mayor of new york city, i had a city that had a deficit of about $3 billion. we had 10.5% unemployment. we had 1.1 million people on welfare. we were coming to a -- what was described, one of the reasons i got elected. i got elected because the economy was horrible, had 2,000 murders in the two years before i ran for mayor so i got elected at the first republican in 25 years, first one to remain a republican in 50. [laughter] i got legislated with a very, very simple and direct campaign slogan. you can't do any worse. romney's getting these now, the nominees of the party are offered intelligence briefings by career cia people. but they're more, they're analytical, what we used to call pee and glean briefings which is one of the many euphemisms from cia days. i'm trying to approach them in my memory because i can't get ahead. but their analytical. they're not operational, they're not given a lot of specific details about agents and agent operations that only, that only happens once the election takes place. once, you know, if it's in the case of a new president, um, obviously if president obama's reelected, then this will not happen. but that's when they get the review of all the ongoing covert action programs. that's when president-elect obama first got his detailed briefing on the enhanced interrogation program. you know, by that time much of it, any reader of "the washington post" and new york times probably had about 85% of it, but that was his first official briefing. that's when, that's when he, that's when presidential candidates typically -- it's a crash course, i guess, is what i'm trying to
